The Professor Alborzi Clinical Microbiology Research Center was established in 1992 with the aim of advancing research and technology in the field of clinical microbiology to address issues related to infectious diseases. Since 1999, this center has been recognized as the national clinical microbiology hub of Iran. The academic staff of the center, holding PhDs in basic sciences such as bacteriology, microbiology, immunology, parasitology, and mycology, as well as clinical specialists in infectious diseases, are actively involved in its activities.
The faculty members utilize advanced and up-to-date equipment in the laboratories of microbiology, virology and cell culture, mycology, immunology of infectious diseases, and tuberculosis. They address research, educational, and diagnostic needs related to infectious diseases and conduct studies in various areas of clinical microbiology.
In the educational sphere, the center’s members are continuously engaged in designing and supervising theses at various student levels in clinical microbiology, organizing training courses for pediatric infectious disease fellows and PhD students in medical parasitology at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, recruiting research conscripts, holding educational workshops and scientific seminars, and preparing treatment guidelines. Since 2007, the International Congress of Clinical Microbiology has been held annually. From 2010 onwards, with the approval of the Council for the Expansion of Medical Universities, the center has admitted PhD by research students in three cycles.
In line with its mission to improve public health regarding infectious diseases and to apply research findings in practice, since 2006, the center has provided specialized diagnostic services in clinical microbiology for both inpatients and outpatients. This has also facilitated the training of students referred from various centers, enhancing their scientific and practical skills.
